The Ulster Genome Project is a biobank curated by the Northern Ireland Centre for Stratified Medicine (NICSM), part of Ulster University. We host the largest single critical mass of researchers solely focused on stratified and personalised medicine in Ireland.
With 23 core staff, 36 NHS affiliated clinicians and the engagement of NHS Health Trusts, the centre aims to identify how our genes or proteins, the small molecules within our body or how our medical images could be used to create robust clinical decision making tests for a range of degenerative diseases.
The NICSM is located at the Clinical Translational Research and Innovation Centre (C-TRIC), embedded in the Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry~Londonderry.
The Centre was established in 2013 following an £11.5M award to Director Professor Tony Bjourson, from the European Union Regional Development Fund (ERDF) EU Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland and Invest Northern Ireland, alongside partners within the Northern Ireland Public Health Agency (HSC R&D), ILEX and Ulster University.
We engage with regional development agencies and Derry City and Strabane District Council to promote translation of research and promote inward investment in the health technologies sector.
